How Do Fertility Tests Work?

How do fertility tests work?

We don’t want you to feel overwhelmed when trying for a baby and understanding your fertility, which is why we’ve tried to make it as easy as possible.

You will find lots of useful information on the Dr Fertility website about the positive steps you can take on your fertility journey. We have also developed the Couple’s Guide to Getting Pregnant to help you get started.

If you want to learn more about your hormonal health, our fertility tests are a great way to get some ‘inside information’ on what’s happening in your body. We have a range of home fertility tests available for both men and women to help you learn more about your fertility potential and general health.

Dr Fertility offer a range of affordable hormone fertility tests; these are finger-prick blood tests that you can do yourself in the privacy of your own home. You will be fully supported throughout the process. Your tests are sent off for processing at an accredited UK laboratory. A Doctor reviews your results and a fertility nurse will call you to discuss your results and give you advice on your next steps.

In addition, we also have other home testing kits for men and women. Our range includes sperm tests for men that measure from a semen sample, the concentration of sperm (how many swimmers you have) and some also measure sperm motility (how well sperm swim). For women, for we have midstream urine tests that measure the levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which is an indicator of ovarian reserve (how many eggs you have left). These tests can also be done in the comfort of your own home and the results are ready in minutes.

It is important to remember that fertility tests do not give you a complete picture of your fertility. They help to fill in some blanks, providing some valuable insight into what may be happening inside your body, so that you are more informed and can decide on what the next steps are for you.

And here is how it works:

Our home fertility tests do not replace the tests that may be offered to you by your GP. It is important that if you are concerned about your health or your fertility, or you are experiencing any symptoms you talk these through with your GP.
