Caya Diaphragm - FAQs

How effective is the Caya diaphragm?

No contraceptive method can guarantee 100% safety from unwanted pregnancy. The Caya diaphragm is just as effective as the traditional diaphragm. The more often you use the Caya diaphragm, the more confident you will become in using this contraceptive method.

How can I be sure that I have inserted my Caya diaphragm correctly?

You can use your longest finger to check the position of Caya. The cup should cover your cervix (entrance to your womb) and the removal dome should feel secure behind your pubic bone.

What should I do if I need help fitting my Caya?

The idea of the single-size Caya is that no fitting is required. If you think that you help with fitting visit your local NHS Family Planning or Contraceptive and Sexual Health Clinic.

How long can I use my Caya diaphragm for?

After first use, don’t use the same Caya for longer than 2 years.

Why does my Caya diaphragm have to stay in place for 6 hours after sex?

This is because the sperm cells will no longer be active after 6 hours due to the action of the spermicidal gel.

Why can’t I wear my Caya diaphragm for longer than 24 hours without interruption?

Wearing your Caya for more than 24 hours can promote bacterial growth inside your vagina which can lead to Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Can I have repeated consecutive sex with my Caya diaphragm?

The good news is: yes you can! Your Caya will remain in place but you will need to apply additional contraceptive gel with the aid of the applicator

I think I might have a vaginal infection what should I do?

Please visit your doctor for advice on this matter and stop using your Caya diaphragm and use condoms instead. Once your infection has completely gone you should use a new Caya diaphragm.

Which lubricant can I use with the Caya diaphragm?

All lubricants made of silicone oil are not compatible with Caya diaphragms. We recommend users to only use water-based products such as Caya Gel.

What should I do if my Caya diaphragm causes pain during sex?

Firstly check that your Caya is correctly in place using your longest finger. If your Caya continues to cause pain, please visit your doctor

How can make sure that I am using my Caya diaphragm most effectively?

It is important to make sure that your Caya is inserted correctly. Make sure you use your Caya with a contraceptive gel (e.g. Caya gel) and always insert before and not during sex.

How do I clean my Caya diaphragm?

Every time you use your Caya, clean it afterwards with only soap and water. You may also clean it by placing your Caya in boiling water.. Disinfectants do not need to be used and are not recommended. Always replace your Caya with a new one after a vaginal infection.

When should I not use the Caya diaphragm?

  • Don’t use within the first 6 weeks after giving birth.
  • Don’t use if you previously used a diaphragm sized 85 mm and larger or 60 mm and smaller.
  • Don’t use if you have a prolapsed pelvic floor or cervix.
  • Don’t use if your Caya is damaged.

What should I do if my Caya accidentally comes out during intercourse?

Re-insert Caya again after applying some more contraceptive gel. If the diaphragm comes out after your partner has ejaculated or if you are worried, visit your doctor to discuss whether you may need the "morning-after-pill".
